BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

ALBERTO REGUERA (Segovia, 1961)
"Red", 2003.
Mixed media on canvas.
Signed and dated on the back.
Measurements: 34 x 34 cm.
Alberto Reguera is a Spanish artist who lives and works in Madrid, developing for more than three decades an international career between Europe, the United States and Asia. His practice starts from painting to investigate the relationship between space, pictorial matter and visual depth, evolving towards an expanded conception of painting, close to sculpture, installation and performance.
With a degree in Modern History from the University of Valladolid, he completed his artistic training between Madrid and Paris, where he attended seminars at the École du Louvre and participated in the Contemporary Art Workshops of the Círculo de Bellas Artes, coming into contact with key figures such as Lucio Muñoz and Rafael Canogar. Since the nineties he has developed his own language based on material density and the expansion of the pictorial field beyond the canvas.
He has held solo exhibitions and institutional projects in museums and international centers, including the retrospectives Blue Expansive Landscape at the UMAG Museum in Hong Kong (2015) and the one organized by the Esteban Vicente Museum in Segovia (2016), as well as exhibitions and performances at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, the National Art Museum of China, the Place du Louvre in Paris and the University Museum and Art Gallery of Hong Kong.
His work is part of numerous public and private collections, including Patrimonio Nacional, the Juan March Foundation, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Madrid, the La Caixa Collection, CEIBS Shanghai and the OECD in Paris. He has received, among other awards, the Young Painting Prize of the Académie des Beaux-Arts de France (1995) and the Ojo Crítico Prize of Radio Nacional de España (2001).
