Ángeles San José graduated in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1984 and began her exhibition career at the Machón gallery in Madrid, where she presented a first body of material work that, over time, evolved towards more intimate and subtle proposals, influenced by the painting of Gerhard Richter.
Throughout his career, San José has received numerous grants and awards that have accompanied his artistic development, among them the Ayllon Painting Grant (1984), the FPI Research Grant (1985), the Second Prize at the Second Young Painting Exhibition in Madrid (1985), the Second Prize at the Third Biennial City of Albacete (1985-1990), the BANESTO Plastic Arts Grant (1991) and the ENDESA Painting Grant (1995).
Her work has been present both in solo exhibitions, since 1989 in Madrid and in cities such as Barcelona and Vitoria, and in relevant international group shows, including Galerie Wirth in Zurich (1990), Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno in Las Palmas (1996), Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid (2004), GAIAS in Santiago de Compostela (2014) and fairs such as ARCO, Art Basel, Art Taipei, Art Moscow and Arte Santander.
Ángeles San José's work is part of prestigious public and private collections, including the Museo de Ayllon, the Museo Provincial de Teruel, the Museo de Albacete, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Madrid, the Fundación Suñol, the Fundación Caixa de Pensiones, the Museo José Luis Cuevas de México, as well as the collections of the Banco de España, Caja Madrid, LA CAIXA and Los Bragales.
