Martin Caballero, also known as Martin Martinez Cabello, was a Spanish painter noted for his struggle for freedom in the late Franco era and in the transition to democracy. Although he became known already in the second half of the 1970s with his neo-figurative paintings of great compositional originality and marked critical purpose, he rose to fame thanks to the award of the "Alfons Roig" prize of the Diputación de Valencia in 1981. His artistic maturity is characterized by the use of acrylic in thin layers, as it allows him to establish in superimposed planes a narrative and pragmatic intimate and social plot, emphasizing ironic winks and other symbolisms of free and multiple interpretation. Most of his artistic collection is kept in the José Martínez Guerricabeitia Foundation, although it is true that there are also works of his in the Salvador Allende Resistance Museum in Chile and in the Contemporary Art Museum of Villafamés in Castellón. Finally, it is worth mentioning that in 2003 the University of Valencia dedicated a large anthological exhibition to him.
