DESCRIPTION
JOSÉ MATAIX MONLLOR (Alcoy, Alicante, 1882 - 1952).
"Mountain landscape with shepherd and flock".

It has very slight flaws in the frame.
Measurements: 80 x 60 cm; 100 x 77 cm (frame).
In this work, Mataix reaffirms his link with the Levantine landscape tradition of naturalistic roots. His painting is articulated by means of a loose and material brushstroke, of vibrant impasto, that constructs the space through light values and chromatic hallmarks more than by the precise drawing.
A direct disciple of Lorenzo Casanova, José Mataix participated from a very young age in Fine Arts Exhibitions. His career, recognized with several awards -among them the first class medal in the Provincial Exhibition of Alicante in 1944-, was developed mainly in the Valencian and Alicante areas, where he enjoyed notable critical esteem. He is currently represented in the Museum of Fine Arts of Alicante.
