In this piece, the artist explores matter as an expressive language: earth, pigments and organic textures build a surface that evokes the rough and luminous landscape of Port Lligat (Cadaqués), a place deeply linked to the Mediterranean artistic memory. The work suggests a "skin" of the territory: it does not represent it figuratively, but embodies it through reliefs, cracks and chromatic hallmarks, ocher, blue and black, which refer to the sea, rock and erosion. Guinovart turns the support into a tactile and almost archaeological space, where matter speaks of the passage of time and the identity of the landscape.
Josep Guinovart trained between Barcelona and Paris, and participated in the Biennials of São Paulo, Alexandria and Venice. He was part of the avant-garde group Taüll, and his awards include the City of Barcelona, the National Plastic Arts and Plastic Arts of the Generalitat. In 1994 the Guinovart Space was inaugurated in Agramunt, Lleida, a private foundation that has a permanent exhibition of the artist. He is represented in the Museums of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, Madrid and Mexico City, the Reina Sofia, the Museum of Fine Arts in Bilbao, the Casa de las Americas in Havana and the Museum of Fine Arts in Long Island, New York, among many others.
