Currently the work of Jeanne Van Cauwenberghs, artist specialized in the realization of African scenes, is conserved in the Museum of Fine Arts of Ghent. On this occasion she represents an African ritual dance scene in which two central figures perform a dynamic dance with spears or sticks while a large group of people form a circle around them, some playing drums and others observing, suggesting a community ceremony or collective celebration; the panoramic composition, the loose brushstroke and the warm, earthy tones reinforce the sensation of movement, rhythm and ceremonial atmosphere in the open air.
