Known as Din Matamoro, this painter from Vigo moved to Madrid when he was sixteen years old to prepare his entrance to the Faculty of Fine Arts, while assiduously visiting the Prado Museum. He studied between 1976 and 1980, and one year after graduating he participated in a group exhibition for the first time. Three years later, in 1984, he made his individual debut with an exhibition held at the Sala de la Caja de Ahorros de Vigo in Villagarcía de Arosa. Since then, Matamoro has held numerous exhibitions in Spain and abroad, especially highlighting the individual exhibition dedicated to him in 2005 by the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea. In 1987 he furthered his training at the workshop directed by Antonio Saura at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, and later in New York (1988-89), thanks to a grant from the Spanish-American Joint Committee, and at the Spanish Academy in Rome (1990-91), again on scholarship. Appointed in 2015 as a numerary member of the Royal Galician Academy of Fine Arts, Matamoro is currently represented in the Afundación Collection, the ABANCA Collection, the Bank of Spain Collection, the Provincial Councils of A Coruña and Pontevedra, the CGAC in Santiago de Compostela, the Álava Collection, the Quiñones Collection in León and other public and private collections.
