"Battle of Salado".
Oil on canvas.
Measurements: 33 x 44 cm; 46 x 58 cm (frame).
The Battle of Salado was one of the most important confrontations of the final period of the Reconquest, where the coalited troops of Alfonso XI of Castile and Alfonso IV of Portugal defeated the Benimerín army. The painting seeks to capture the heat of combat and the heroism of the Christian knights. The scene is very dynamic, with foreshortened figures and an organized chaos that transmits the violence of the battle. Ship masts and architectural structures can be seen in the background.
