BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

IGNACIO GIL SALA (Barcelona, 1913 - 2003).
"Ibizan scene".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 50 x 60 cm; 64 x 75 x 5 cm (frame).

Ignacio Gil cultivated mainly the costumbrista scenes, inspired in places like Barcelona, Majorca or Ibiza, as we observe in this composition of rural subject.

The work is resolved by means of a loose and impastoed brushstroke, with a luminous and contrasted palette that accentuates the effects of light and atmosphere. The synthetic treatment of the figures and the landscape reflects a modern interpretation of Spanish regionalist painting, centered on daily life and popular traditions.

Ignacio Gil Sala was a Spanish painter trained at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona. Throughout his career he exhibited in Spain and in several European and American countries. His painting was characterized by a loose brushstroke and a luminous coloring. His works are preserved in museums in Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, Valencia and Rome.
