Scene of interior characterized by a sober composition and by an atmosphere of marked introspection. The space represented corresponds to a room with white walls, probably domestic, in which several mirrors located in the background introduce a complex spatial dimension by multiplying perspectives and reflections. In the center of the composition stands out a red armchair, an element that acts as the visual axis of the painting and concentrates the viewer's attention within a deliberately austere environment, with clothes in different shades of blue on the back and seat of the armchair: a lighter piece on the back and another in a dark blue tone resting on the seat. These apparently everyday elements acquire a fundamental role within the compositional structure, not only for their chromatic value, which contrasts with the intense red of the armchair and the neutrality of the walls, but also for their capacity to suggest an absent human presence. The scene, devoid of figures, thus becomes an indirect representation of domestic life, where objects and furniture function as silent traces of daily activity.
The treatment of space and atmosphere evoke, in a certain way, the interior compositions developed by the American painter Edward Hopper, especially with regard to the construction of silent environments and the use of apparently ordinary settings to generate a sense of psychological introspection.
