BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

LUIGI MORETTI (Italy, 1884-1950).
"Boat in Venice.
Oil on cardboard".
Signed in the lower right corner. Signed and titled on the back.
Measurements: 60 x 36 cm.
The scene stands out for the presence of the yellow sail that dominates the composition and for the loose and luminous brushstroke that captures the reflections of the water. The oval format reinforces the decorative character of the work, which is very common in paintings intended for collectors or as a setting.
The work is in the tradition of the Venetian veduta, a genre of painting that focused on views of the city and its canals, which developed greatly from the 18th century and continued to be popular with Italian artists and travelers during the turn of the century. In this painting, Moretti combines the depiction of the urban landscape with an everyday boating scene, capturing the atmosphere and color characteristic of the Venetian lagoon.
