Karel Heymans was a Belgian artist dedicated to painting and drawing. Largely self-taught, he nevertheless counted on the advice and support of his brother Casimir Heymans, who introduced him to the artistic field. He settled in Antwerp, where he developed most of his career. Initially he began as an art collector, but by 1930 he was deeply attracted to the practice of painting. During this period he became friends with the artists M. Melsen and J. Van Puyenbroeck. Throughout his career he painted portraits, figures, village and city scenes, port and coastal views, characters, interiors, flowers, landscapes and forest scenes. He participated in several exhibitions, including the Second December Salon of the National Association of Painters and Sculptors of Belgium held in Brussels in 1939; the Quadrennial Salon in Ghent in 1954; Galerie Leys in 1958; and the Henri De Braekeleer Salon in Antwerp in 1960. During the 1970s he exhibited several times with his brother at the Martinushoeve. His name also appears in the publication Two Centuries of Belgian Artists, dedicated to the trajectory of Belgian artists over two centuries.
