In this canvas, of strong expressive load, a construction based more on the gesture and the density of the oil than in the conventional figurative representation is noticed. The composition seems to be articulated around a central vertical axis, which acts as the backbone of the scene, while on both sides there are broken, almost organic masses of color, which suggest shapes without being completely fixed, the chromatism is tense and dramatic: deep blacks dominate the background, opening a closed, nocturnal space, on which electric blues and fiery reds burst out. The latter, applied with violence and thickness, evoke a restrained energy, even a tragic dimension very characteristic of Spanish informalism. The light areas, constructed with dirty whites and dull greens, seem to emerge as fragments of light or dissolving bodies, generating a contrast that accentuates the sensation of internal conflict.
Rather than offering a closed reading, the painting invites an open contemplation, in which the viewer is confronted with a convulsive inner landscape. The possible allusion to natural forms, mountains, bodies or ruins is deliberately ambiguous, reinforcing the introspective character of the piece.
