DESCRIPTION
AGUSTÍN IBARROLA (Bilbao, Vizcaya, 1930-2023).
Untitled.
Oil on paper.
Hand signed in the lower margin.
Measurements: 23,5 x 13,5 cm; 26,5 x 37 cm (frame).
This work by Agustín Ibarrola presents a composition of great formal synthesis, in which the artist articulates the space through large surfaces of color and simplified geometric shapes. The contrast between the dominant green of the lower plane and the blue masses on a light background generates an image of strong structural clarity.
He was a key painter and sculptor in understanding the development of avant-garde art in Spain during the second half of the 20th century. Throughout his career, Ibarrola explored diverse supports and languages, also standing out for his interventions in the landscape, such as the Bosque de Oma. His work combines formal synthesis and reflection on the territory.
He has been awarded the Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts, the Medal of Merit and Recognition of Work (2001) and the Medal of Order and Constitutional Merit (2003).
He is currently represented in the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, among other important collections.
