José Bascones Ayneto was a painter linked to the figurative tradition, whose work focused mainly on landscapes, portraits and genre scenes, following a classic line within the Spanish painting of his time; although he did not achieve great international projection or wide dissemination in the art historiography, he participated in exhibitions and his work continues to circulate in the secondary market, especially in auctions and private collections, which reflects a moderate recognition within more local or specialized artistic spheres.
