In the mature work of Jorge Castillo, eroticism unfolds as a constant tension between desire and restlessness. His figures, often fragmented or in metamorphosis, do not celebrate the body in an idealized way, but present it as an ambiguous territory, where the sensual coexists with the disturbing. The incisive line and the restrained color construct scenes in which eroticism ceases to be complacent and becomes a reflection: an exploration of the human impulse crossed by irony and, at times, by a subtle symbolic violence.
Jorge Castillo is an essential figure of contemporary Spanish art, linked since the sixties to the New Figuration. His work, strongly symbolic and literary, oscillates between figuration and abstraction. He is represented in important public collections such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the IVAM, the Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao and various international institutions.
