Outstanding work by the French painter Roger Mühl, whose production focuses on the luminous interpretation of the Mediterranean landscape. In this composition, the artist constructs an enveloping scene based on a path that winds its way through lush vegetation, where nature is presented as a sensory rather than a descriptive experience.
The brushstroke, dense and impastoed, models the forms through a rich and vibrant matter that gives the surface a remarkable physical presence. The palette, dominated by deep greens, fresh blues and floral accents in red and white, reinforces the atmospheric intensity of the whole. There are echoes of post-impressionism in the capture of light, as well as a chromatic freedom close to Fauvism, elements that define the artist's personal language.
In terms of format, technical quality and visual power, this piece is a particularly representative example of Mühl's maturity, highly appreciated by collectors for his ability to translate the light and vibration of the landscape of southern France into pictorial terms.
Roger Mühl trained at the National School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg, completing his studies in 1948. From the 1950s onwards he developed an intense international career, exhibiting in cities such as Paris, Geneva, London, Milan, New York and Tokyo. Established mainly in the Côte d'Azur, his work focused on landscape, being considered an outstanding figurative painter of Provence, as an outstanding representative of the Second School of Paris. He has been featured in group exhibitions at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. He is represented at the MAMCS (Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain de Strasbourg), at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in Wales, at the Nara Sogo Museum of Art (Japan), among other international museums.
