BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

LUIS FEITO (Madrid, 1929 - Rascafría, Madrid, 2021).
Untitled, 2000.
Oil on canvas.
Signed on the back.
Measurements: 81 × 100 cm; 84 x 103 cm (frame).

This work of Luis Feito reflects the maturity of a language fully identified with the gestural abstraction and the material-chromatic force that characterized much of his career. The composition is organized from a tension between large fields of color and areas of intense pictorial energy, where the white background acts as a space of expansion and contrast.

Red, black and violet accents articulate the surface through stains, sweeps and splashes that introduce a marked visual dynamism. The black diagonal that crosses the composition functions as a structural axis, while the red areas concentrate the expressive intensity of the work. Feito thus combines compositional rigor and gestural freedom, balancing formal forcefulness with an emotionally charged painting.

Luis Feito was a key figure in Spanish abstraction and a founding member of the El Paso group, a fundamental group for the artistic renovation of the post-war period. After his first solo exhibition in 1954 at the Buchholz gallery in Madrid, he began an international career that led him to exhibit in cities such as Paris, New York, Milan, Tokyo and Rome.

Throughout his career he received numerous awards, such as the Order of Arts and Letters of France (1985) and the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts (1998). His work is part of important international collections, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
