This painting immediately refers to one of the great axes of Civera's production: the exploration of the interior space as an emotional and spiritual territory. The title, En la vasija, suggests the idea of container, receptacle or womb, a recurring notion in feminine and domestic iconography that the artist has worked from perspectives far removed from the traditional narrative. Rather than representing a recognizable object, Civera constructs an introspective visual experience where circularity functions as a metaphor of refuge, origin and silence. The central void does not act as an absence, but as a focus of contained energy.
Formed in the Valencian artistic context of the late seventies and later linked to the New York scene during the 1980s with the artist Juan Uslé, Victoria Civera developed an independent language that shuns both strict formalism and conventional figuration. Her work dialogues with lyrical abstraction, object art and certain sensibilities of minimalism, although always from an autobiographical and sensorial dimension.
. Throughout his career he will work with painting, photography, installation art and sculpture. In his early works he worked with photographic material from the world of pornography. Later, in the eighties, his work approaches, at times, to Action Painting, to later approach figuration, following a path linked to neo-expressionism. In the mid-eighties she took up residence in New York and collaborated artistically with her husband, Juan Uslé. Her sculptural work usually includes materials such as leather, fabric, buckles, shoes, evoking somehow the universe, mainly feminine, of fashion, and reflecting on the role of women as subject and object in contemporary society. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and her work is preserved in major collections and museums of international scope, such as the IVAM in Valencia, the MACBA in Barcelona, the Patio Herreriano in Valladolid or the Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid.
