This work, titled "Meditación sobre el vuelo" by Cuban artist José Bedia, reflects the deep spiritual and symbolic explorations characteristic of his artistic production. Created in a linear and expressive style, the piece incorporates elements linked to the Afro-Cuban cosmovision and shamanic traditions, recurring themes in the artist's work. The composition suggests a reflection on the act of flying, understood not only as a physical displacement, but also as a spiritual experience and inner transformation. Through schematic figures and ritual symbols, Bedia constructs a visual narrative that invites contemplation, connection with the ancestral and the search for transcendental freedom.
José Bedia began his training at the San Alejandro Academy and graduated with honors from the Instituto Superior de Arte de La Habana. He was a key figure in the renewal of contemporary Cuban art since the Volumen 1 exhibition. His work is deeply influenced by anthropological and spiritual studies linked to Afro-descendant and Amerindian cultures, especially the traditions of the Regla Kongo, the Regla de Ocha and the Abakuá society. His travels in Africa and Latin America enriched his interest in the cultural and spiritual roots present in contemporary societies. Thanks to this approach, his work has been exhibited in important international biennials and is part of the collections of prestigious museums such as MoMA, the Guggenheim, the Tate Modern and the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana.
