DESCRIPTION
HENRI ERNST PFEIFFER (Kassel, 1907 - Maisons-Laffitte, 1994).
"Composition", 1928.
Mixed media on sized paper.
Monogrammed and dated in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 59.5 x 84.5 cm.
Early abstract composition by Henri Ernst Pfeiffer, made in 1928, in the decisive years of his training linked to the Bauhaus environment. The work is organized by means of wide translucent planes, gray glazes and a triangular core of ochre tones, creating an image of great structural subtlety and chromatic balance.
Pfeiffer was a student at the Bauhaus, where he came into contact with the research of Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky, fundamental to his conception of color, form and visual rhythm.
The work anticipates the research that Pfeiffer would later develop around the harmony of color, a field to which he devoted an essential part of his artistic and theoretical career. His production is situated at the crossroads between painting, technical experimentation and chromatic thought, within the horizon of European abstraction between the wars.
