DESCRIPTION
JOSÉ LUIS FLORIT RODERO (Madrid, 1909 - Paris, 2000).
"Circus scene".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 46 x 38 cm; 62 x 54 cm (frame).
Circus scene centered on a horsewoman on horseback, represented inside a ring animated by the public in the background. Florit resolves the composition with loose brushstrokes and abundant matter, using a lively palette of reds, blues, whites and ochers that accentuates the dynamism of the spectacle.
Painter, draftsman and illustrator, José Luis Florit was trained in Olot, Figueras and at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in Madrid. In 1935 he moved to Paris, where he came into contact with the avant-garde, although he always maintained a personal language. He participated in national and international exhibitions, such as the Venice Biennale, and won a medal at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in 1934. He is represented in the Museum of Modern Art in Madrid.
