Georges Wakhévitch was a French-Russian artistic director, scenographer and painter whose career developed between cinema, theater, opera and visual arts. Born in the then Russian Empire, son of a naval engineer, he emigrated with his family to France in 1921 after the political upheavals resulting from the Russian Revolution. Settled in Paris, he trained in painting and soon became part of the artistic circles of the French capital, where he began a career linked to the performing and cinematographic arts.
His legacy occupies a prominent place in the European scenography of the twentieth century, especially for his ability to integrate pictorial tradition and theatrical modernity in a sophisticated and profoundly artistic visual proposal. He was also the father of the avant-garde composer Igor Wakhévitch.
