Thérèse Ambourg was a French painter active during the 1930s and 1940s, of whom little biographical information is still preserved, although several references allow us to partially reconstruct her artistic career. Trained with the Belgian sculptor and painter Jules Van Biesbroeck and the Italian painter Felice Carena, Ambourg developed a figurative painting focused mainly on portraiture, genre scenes and some landscapes and seascapes.
His presence in the Parisian artistic environment is documented by his participation in the Salon des Artistes Français of 1935, where he presented a portrait of a young man, which confirms his integration in the official exhibition circuits of the time. In addition, Parisian archives record her activity as a painter in 1936.
Thérèse Ambourg's known work reveals a sensibility particularly attentive to the human figure and the intimate atmosphere. Her works are often characterized by a fluid brushstroke, soft lighting and a search for naturalness, moving away from both rigid academicism and the more radical avant-garde of the period. His paintings are influenced by the post-impressionist tradition and the French poetic realism of the interwar period.
