Julio Serón is an Argentine painter linked to the development and diffusion of abstract and concrete art in Rosario since the mid-twentieth century. His initial training took place at the Agrupación de Artistas Plásticos, where he began to consolidate a career marked by experimentation between geometric abstraction and figuration, an alternation that characterized his first stages of production.
In the early fifties he joined the Argentine abstract painting scene, participating in the first modern art spaces in Rosario. In 1957 he was one of the first artists to introduce concrete painting in the city, contributing decisively to the diffusion of the geometric avant-garde in the local context. Since then, his work has been defined as a "pursuit of forms", understood as a constant search for expressive renewal without ties to formal stereotypes.
During the 1950s, his production evolved from an orthodox geometric abstraction, based on straight lines and structured compositions, towards a more flexible language that incorporated the curve, the gesture and certain features of informalism. In the seventies he consolidated his own morphological system, based on orthogonal structures that were initially monochromatic and later evolved towards more complex polychromatic solutions.
Parallel to his artistic activity, he developed an important teaching and cultural management work. He was a professor of painting at the Provincial School of Visual Arts of Rosario and an adjunct professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the National University of Rosario, where he specialized in color and implementation. He also held positions of institutional relevance, such as the Secretariat of the Rosa Galisteo de Rodríguez Provincial Museum of Fine Arts and the direction of the Juan B. Castagnino Municipal Museum of Fine Arts.
His work has been widely recognized through more than fifty solo exhibitions and more than one hundred group exhibitions in Argentina, America and Europe. He has received numerous awards, including the First Prize for Drawing at the Salón de Amigos del Arte de Rosario (1961), the "Martín Rodríguez Galisteo" Acquisition Award (1968) and the Dr. Carlos Corbella Award for his contribution to the culture of Rosario (1994). His production is represented in museums and collections in Argentina, Spain, France, Uruguay, Chile and the United States, consolidating a fundamental trajectory within contemporary Argentine abstraction.
