Josep Moscardó studied in Barcelona at the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts and the La Lonja School of Fine Arts. He began his career in 1976, focusing from the outset on landscape, which he considers his primary source of inspiration. However, he does not seek out untamed nature or lush forests, but rather places with a life of their own—inhabited spaces, preferably urban views, such as this one of a street in the Catalan town of Vic. In his works, he seeks out spots where architectural appeal blends with an evocative atmosphere, reflected through his personal use of color. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards, including the Correo Catalán Prize in 1972, the Santiago Barceló Prize in 1974, the Val d’Or Prize in 1976, and the Valentí Prize in 1985, among others. He has also held solo exhibitions both in Spain (Sala Vayreda, Sala Parés, Galería Tavira, and many others) and abroad (Serendipity and D.J. Lester Galleries in Los Angeles). His presence outside Spain is notable in group exhibitions: “The New Impressionists” (Brentwood Portfolio in Los Angeles and Art Expo in New York), I.G.I. in Chicago, Art Asia in Hong Kong, the David Messum Gallery in London, the Bankaku Gallery in Nagoya, and the Art Box Gallery in Tokyo. He currently works with the Parés Gallery in Barcelona. Moscardó considers himself a Mediterranean artist, an idea reflected in his paintings both thematically and in his treatment of light, the intensity of his brushstrokes, and his color palette. In addition to painting, Moscardó has devoted himself to graphic art, depicting various—and particularly iconic—urban landscapes of cities such as Barcelona and New York.
