A representative work from the mature period of Hernández Mompó, one of the leading figures of Spanish lyrical abstraction. His artistic language, developed after his exposure to the Parisian art scene, is characterized by formal synthesis, lightness of touch, and a delicate chromatic harmony.
Hernández Mompó studied in Valencia, Paris, and Rome, and upon his return to Spain, he received a fellowship from the Juan March Foundation in Madrid, as well as the National Grand Prize for Painting and a first-place medal at the National Fine Arts Exhibition. Among his most notable awards are the UNESCO Prize, which he received at the 34th Venice Biennale in 1968, and the National Prize for Fine Arts from the Ministry of Culture in 1984. His works are represented in the IVAM in Valencia, the Reina Sofía National Museum, the Museum of Abstract Art in Cuenca, the British Museum in London, the Georges Pompidou Center in Paris, the Chase Manhattan Bank collection in New York, and the Winterthur Museum in Switzerland, among many others.
