DESCRIPTION
“Motherhood,” second half of the 20th century.
Enamel on metal, with appliqués, mounted on wood.
Monogrammed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 12 x 11 cm; 22.5 x 21.5 cm (frame).
The work interprets the theme of motherhood through a synthetic and ornamental style, closely aligned with the renewal of the art of enamel work that took place during the second half of the 20th century. The mother and child appear closely united, defined by sinuous contours, idealized faces, and a contemplative pose that alludes—without literally reproducing it—to Marian iconography.
The enameled surface combines shades of burgundy, ochre, and white with textured areas and small embellishments that enrich the composition. Particularly noteworthy is the contrast between the smoothness of the skin tones and the geometric decoration of the dress, constructed using compartments, circles, and reticulated lines. The asymmetrical wooden frame, conceived as part of the composition, reinforces the piece’s artisanal and unique character.
