This black-and-white portrait of a woman reveals one of Gino Hollander’s most evocative aspects: a painting in which the figure begins to dissolve and approaches abstraction. The face, reduced to hallmarks, gestures, and essential forms, reveals the artist’s interest in expressiveness rather than in faithful representation. This tension between the figurative and the abstract—between recognizable identity and its gradual transformation—is one of the keys to his pictorial language and connects his work to the freedom and intensity of New York Abstract Expressionism.
