Adrià Pina moved to Valencia at the age of 23, where he took his first steps as an artist under the guidance and influence of Manolo Boix, whose neoclassical and realist style he adopted. Pina’s early work began to take on a critical realism oriented toward environmental and sociopolitical themes in the 1970s, later evolving into the creation of serialized works influenced by his various travels across Europe. It was during the 1980s that he began exhibiting in various capital cities such as New York, London, and Madrid. Pina’s work has always demonstrated evolution, a spirit of experimentation, and a constant quest for new directions, eventually incorporating the pop art style into his artistic practice. His works are characterized by the sculptural rendering of figures and the interplay of light, resulting in compositions dominated by three-dimensional objects, thereby breaking with the formal rigidity of art. The introduction of accessory objects—such as action figures or plastic materials—brings the Valencian artist’s work closer to a “Duchampian” sensibility. In this way, he engages the viewer in a visual game that reimagines the everyday and the banal, such as objects from childhood. Adrià Pina’s works can be found in collections such as The Chase Manhattan Bank in New York, the “A cent métres du centre du monde” Contemporary Art Center in Perpignan, as well as the European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) in Barcelona and various government agencies in Spain.
