Trained at the Llotja School under the tutelage of Francesc Labarta, Alfred Sisquella was one of the founders of Els Evolucionistes, a group formed in Barcelona in 1917. The figure and portraiture played a prominent role in his career, developed from a personal naturalism based on structure, balance, and expressive restraint. His work is represented in the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya—which houses, among other pieces, the portrait *Antonia*—and in the Museus de Sitges.
