Julián Alangua Puchet was a Basque painter and sculptor whose career spanned Spain and Latin America. Initially trained in sculpture and restoration, he received a scholarship from the Provincial Council of Vizcaya and continued his studies in Madrid, where he participated in major restoration and sculptural decoration projects. In 1950, he won the Third Medal at the National Fine Arts Exhibition in Madrid for his sculptural work. His body of work encompassed religious imagery. In his work as a painter, he cultivated a style characterized by intense color and a distinctly expressionist quality. Having finally settled in Lima, Alangua remained artistically active until his death in 2013. His sculptural and pictorial work thus reflects a unique artistic trajectory, marked by a dialogue between the Spanish figurative tradition, modern sculpture, and the Latin American experience. Among his public works, the monument to Ángel Sanz Briz in Zaragoza, unveiled in 2003, stands out.
