Portrait of a man.
Oil on canvas.
Measurements: 35 x 29 cm; 44 x 37 cm (frame).
The face of a middle-aged man fills the entire composition. The figure’s face floats in the midst of an undefined space, rendered in a range of neutral grays. The painter omits even the depiction of the figure’s neck or torso, focusing all his attention on the face, which has an intense, concentrated, and sad expression. The man looks directly at the viewer, forcing them to confront his desolate gaze.
