The work presents a contemporary reinterpretation of Las Meninas, with a dynamic composition and a geometric structure marked by the segmentation of the dress and the background. The central figure is balanced by the repetitive patterns of the background, creating a sense of order within gestural expressionism. The use of vibrant red in the dress generates a sense of power and energy, contrasting with the intense blue of the background. This chromatic contrast highlights the main figure and places her in an almost theatrical space. The rough texture and gestural brushstrokes add depth and a tactile character to the piece, evoking a sense of history and wear, as if the image were emerging from time. The design of the dress and the arrangement of the elements are reminiscent of classical iconography, but reinterpreted in a modern, abstract style. The absence of facial features in the figure reinforces a message of universality, eliminating individual identity to turn it into a symbol. In addition, the patterns in the background, with framed circular shapes, evoke an almost architectural structure, as if the figure were trapped in a mosaic of memories or history. The work seems to reflect on tradition and modernity. The contemporary aesthetic and the decomposition of form suggest a reinterpretation of art history, where the classical figure is transformed into a new vision of femininity, power and identity.
In 2000, his exhibition at the Agora Gallery in Soho, New York, marked a turning point in Juan Manuel Pajares' career, consolidating his presence on the international art scene. From this experience, gallery owner Carol Jones became interested in his work and introduced him to Atelier Art International in Harlem. This first recognition led him to exhibit in various galleries and art fairs around the world.
Between 2005 and 2010, he worked with Galerie Thierry Veaux in France, combining contemporary art with antique furniture in an innovative dialogue that was very well received. At the St-Art art fair in Strasbourg in 2006, his 200 x 600 cm work made the front page of the local newspaper, consolidating his success in the European market.
He has participated in numerous international fairs such as AAF Hong Kong, AAF New York, AAF Brussels, Discovery Art Fair Cologne and Cheapart Bonn, as well as exhibiting in galleries in Barcelona, Berlin, Madrid and other cities. Recently, he has been present at Art3F in Marseille, Lyon and Mulhouse.
