In this work the author uses an abstract language, based on geometry both in its outline and in the neutral colors that provide the materials of this sculpture. It is an open style, whose basic characteristic is the conception of the surface as a whole, as an open field, marked by limits and a certain hierarchy. Thus, as we see here, the pictorial forms are the result of a thoughtful composition and experimentation. The work encourages the viewer to actively participate by moving or moving around it in order to fully capture the optical effect.
Born in Caracas on February 7, 1985, Juan Gerstl showed signs of intellectual creativity since childhood. In 2006 he graduated in Visual Communication at the Digital Design Center in Caracas, where he began to make a series of pieces following the line of established artists such as Alejandro Otero, Jesús Soto and Carlos Cruz-Díez. Years later in 2014 he exhibited his work at the Kreisler Gallery , along with other great artists such as Felipao, Mario Marini or Antonio Muñoz von Furstenberg and a year later he settled in Madrid, where today he has his artistic workshop. His work shows a special interest in symmetry, order and movement, focusing on turning his creativity into a tangible aesthetic using form, volume and symmetry, he emphasizes the importance of harmony in each piece. As a kinetic artist, Gerstl seeks integration between the piece and the viewer and in his work, the pieces speak for themselves through colors, figures, materials and the influence of light. In fact, in his own words the artist clarifies: "50% of each of my pieces is composed of light and the light of Madrid is the element that can best complete my work". Gerstl's work today continues to develop and mature as he reinforces his stance on form, volume and symmetry. His work has been recognized internationally, he has already made several exhibitions in different spaces of great artistic relevance example of this is his collaboration in 2016 when he participated in an art and technology competition in Las Vegas or his participation in Arco Madrid.
