This work is part of an exhibition called "9 Months" that investigates the parallelism between the gestation cycle and the creative process. Just as our lives are governed by cycles, so is our psyche, and to my understanding the creative process follows the same pattern. This exhibition was built over 9 months, allowing each step to lead to the next, developing organically as a life in gestation does, with its own rhythms, cycles and stages.

Theresia Malaise was born and raised in Antwerp, Belgium. Since she was a child she felt the need to travel and as soon as she could she set out on a journey that would not end until she found herself, 12 years later, pregnant on a small island. She is still traveling, in constant search, in her studio with her paintings in that little corner of the Mediterranean Sea, the island of Menorca. She has studied art both in Belgium and in Spain and has received an intense artistic education since her childhood. His monochrome paintings, inspired by black and white archival photographs, were filled with color and light when he arrived on the island to the point of eliminating black from the color palette. His painting is still a reflection on the weight of memory and the past, on the search for identity, but now the masses of colors float in space creating a mosaic of overlapping layers, as does memory. The anthropomorphic references to the past, typical of the legends of the North, have vanished, although a feeling of strangeness still dwells in his work, a restlessness typical of those who seek to rethink reality.
