"Boda en penumbra" is a deeply atmospheric painting in which David Roldán builds a scene full of symbolic tension, narrative silence and a marked theatrical sensibility. The composition takes place in a dimly lit interior, dominated by a warm, fragmented light that emerges from candles and a candelabra, generating a strong contrast with the areas submerged in darkness.

In the foreground, a female figure dressed in white becomes the emotional axis of the work. Her posture suggests withdrawal, vulnerability and an ambiguous waiting. In front of her, a dark male figure, almost absorbed by the shadows, stands as an enigmatic and distant presence. The contrast between the two bodies -light and shadow, purity and mystery, stillness and tension- articulates the conceptual core of the painting.

The space is carefully constructed with classical references: a sculptural bust, draperies and interior architecture that evoke a timeless, almost baroque atmosphere. These elements reinforce the sensation of a stopped scene, as if it were an instant before or after a crucial event. The bouquet of flowers fallen on the floor introduces a symbol of fragility and rupture, suggesting a complex emotional reading of the concept of "wedding", far from any conventional idealization.

The brushstroke is meticulous and controlled, with special attention to the treatment of textures -the transparency of the dress, the skin, the dark surfaces- and to the lighting effects, where Roldán demonstrates a notable influence of classical chiaroscuro reinterpreted from a contemporary sensibility. The work conveys an open narrative, inviting the viewer to complete the story from his or her own perception.

David Roldán has a solid Artistic Training, beginning his career in 2018 as a Bachelor of Visual Arts from the School of Fine Arts of Trujillo. Continuing his specialization, in 2024 he graduated as Director of 3D Animation and VFX at the Peruvian School of Film Industry. That same year, he completed a Master's Degree in VFX with Houdini Visual Effects at Fx Animation in Barcelona. In addition, in 2025, he expanded his knowledge at the ECORE School of Furniture Restoration, Art and Heritage in Barcelona. As for his exhibition trajectory, his works have been part of important events, including the XVII Binational Exhibition of Plastic and Visual Arts of Ecuador-Peru in 2019, an exhibition at the MA Gallery in Colombia in 2022 and the IV Biennial of Trujillo-Peru in 2024. His work has also been exhibited at prestigious venues such as the Museo Central (MUCEN) in Peru in 2024, and internationally in 2025, at the Art World Fairs Paris Exhibition, Red Dot Miami in the USA in December, the Art Innovation Gallery in New York and a Group Exhibition at the European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) in Barcelona, Spain.
