DESCRIPTION

JESÚS FERNÁNDEZ ESCOBAR (La Puerta de Segura, Jaén, 1988).
"Instinct in orange".
Mixed media on two boards prepared with gesso and fabric scraps.

Measurements: 200 x 120 cm (total); 120x100cm and 100x100cm (each board).

In this painting, a human figure dressed in an impeccable dark suit adopts the firm and confident posture of a leader, while his head -geometric, faceted, almost sculptural- represents that of a wolf. The fusion between the human body and the animal face generates a powerful metaphor about the duality between rationality and instinct, between the socially accepted and the primitive that still dwells in us. The luminous orange background, with warm hues and gestural textures, contrasts with the coldness of the blue and violet tones of the wolf's face, underlining the tension between emotion and control. The fragmentation of the support adds a structural dimension that suggests the complexity of the contemporary individual, divided between multiple roles and masks.

Jesús Fernández Escobar's initial training in Mechanical Engineering profoundly influenced his understanding of forms, balance and structural precision, elements that are still present in his pictorial language. He later oriented his path towards the visual arts, obtaining a Master's Degree in Art from the University of Seville in 2020, where he is currently developing his research as a doctoral student in Art and Heritage. Throughout his career he has received several awards, including the 1st Prize of Painting Puerta de Segura (Jaén, 2014), in addition to being a finalist in competitions such as Emilio Ollero (2015 and 2016), the Ibercaja Prize (2015), the Mercedes Fernández Contest (2017) and Carta Puebla (Ciudad Real, 2025).

His work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions both in Spain and internationally, highlighting shows in spaces such as Art Cuestion Gallery (Madrid), M.A.D. Gallery (Milan) or ART FAIR Malaga. He has also participated in exhibitions such as Vandelvira (Úbeda, 2020), Utopía (Morón de la Frontera, 2020), La Modelo y los Artistas (Úbeda, 2019) and Línea (Jaén, 2018), as well as exhibiting continuously since 2012 at the Santa Clara Museum in Zafra. His paintings are part of private collections in different countries in Europe, the United States, China or Mexico. He currently develops his work from his studio in Puente de Génave (Jaén), where he continues to explore new pictorial possibilities within his artistic research.
