KASTRO (Madrid, 1973)
"Kriatures and DONUKS 34", 2026.
Mixed media, painting on canvas. Unique piece.
Measurements: 120 x 100 cm.
Kriatures and DONUKS 34 represents one of the most solid and evolved proposals within Kastro's artistic universe, a work in which the artist fuses two of his most recognizable visual languages: the Kriatures and the iconic DONUK. The result is a sculptural wall piece that transcends the boundaries between painting, relief and contemporary sculpture, transforming the support into a living, dynamic and deeply narrative space.
The composition is articulated around the white volume of the DONUK, which has become the visual and symbolic axis of the work. Its resounding, silent and geometric presence functions as the gravitational center around which a multitude of small Kriatures unfolds. These figures, repeated and dispersed throughout the surface, generate a sense of collective movement, transit and accumulation, evoking human dynamics linked to coexistence, shared identity and contemporary social energy.
The pictorial intervention in red introduces an expressive tension that breaks the stability of the whole. Applied in a gestural and expansive way, the color brings emotional intensity and a force close to action painting, contrasting with the formal purity of the DONUK's white and with the choral presence of the figures. The black frame acts as a scenic containment, delimiting the work as if it were an open window into a universe of its own.
Beyond its visual impact, Kriatures and DONUKS 34 poses a reflection on the relationship between the individual and the collective. Each Kriature functions as an autonomous presence, with its own identity, but at the same time integrated into a common structure. This duality constitutes one of the central axes of Kastro's work: the coexistence of multiple individual stories within the same visual narrative. The work also evidences a significant evolution in the artist's language towards a more sculptural, objectual and spatial dimension. Kastro does not simply represent a scene; he physically constructs it through volume, relief, accumulation and visual trajectory, inviting the viewer to experience the piece from different distances and perspectives.
