DESCRIPTION
LUCÍA GÓMEZ SERRA (Barcelona, 1971).
“Movement 2.”
Mixed media on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 116 x 130 x 4 cm.
“Movement 2” belongs to Lucía Gómez Serra’s most abstract and textural period, prior to her later specialization in naturalistic painting and illustration. The composition is built up through a dense texture, worked in broad curved strokes that seem to expand from the large dark core located at the bottom. Browns, blacks, earth tones, and bluish glazes are integrated into a surface marked by incisions, drags, and accumulations, where the painterly gesture takes on an almost physical dimension.
Gómez Serra earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Barcelona in 1996 and a diploma in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage; in 2001, she received a Leonardo da Vinci scholarship. In the following years, she participated in exhibitions and art fairs in Spain and Italy, and in 2009 she was selected for the 7th Painting Prize of the Government Delegation in Aragon. She subsequently shifted her focus progressively toward scientific and naturalist illustration; she has exhibited, among other venues, at the Subex Gallery in Barcelona and participated in exhibition projects at the Museu dels Volcans in Olot.
