DESCRIPTION
JUAN TESSI (Peru, 1972).
“Two Sailors,” 2002.
Oil on cardboard.
Measurements: 20 x 28 cm; 22.5 x 30.5 cm (frame).
Born in Lima, Tessi moved with his family to Argentina in 1984 and began his artistic training with the painter Ricardo Garabito. He later studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore and participated in the Yale Norfolk Summer Residency. His work is characterized by an experimental approach to the language of painting, in which the body, the surface, matter, and desire occupy a central place. Tessi has explored both figuration and abstraction, incorporating various media and materials and establishing a dialogue between painting, objects, and sculpture. She has exhibited at major institutions and galleries in Argentina and abroad, including the Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires (MALBA), where she held the exhibition *Cameo* in 2016, as well as the Museum of Modern Art in Buenos Aires and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid. Her work is included in prominent public and private collections, and she currently lives and works in Buenos Aires.
