BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

IVAN LEHUTSKYI (Donetsk region, Ukraine, 1961).
"Revelation," 2025.
Acrylic on canvas.
Certificate of authenticity included.
Measurements: 97 × 79 cm.

In "Revelation," Lehutskyi directs his exploration toward the psychological realm of the individual and, in particular, toward that which remains hidden beneath a seemingly stable identity. The work takes as its starting point the Jungian concept of the “Shadow”: those facets of the personality that the subject rejects or avoids acknowledging, but whose integration is necessary to achieve a more complete perception of the self.

The composition is constructed through the superimposition of forms, lines, and chromatic masses that make an immediate reading of the figure difficult. The body seems to emerge from fragmented structures, with a palette in which intense blues, earth tones, oranges, and reds coexist. This formal complexity visually conveys the tension between the conscious and the repressed: the figure is not presented as a fixed identity, but rather as an organism undergoing continuous processes of transformation.

This concept connects directly to the artist’s overall practice, which centers on the fragility of identity in the face of psychological and social pressure. For Lehutskyi, fragmentation is not merely an artistic device, but a metaphor for the internal mechanisms through which fear, conflict, and sensory overload alter our perception of ourselves.

Ivan Lehutskyi studied at the Kharkiv Art Institute from 1985 to 1990, specializing in Monumental and Decorative Painting. In 1996, he completed a training residency in the United States focused on artistic stained glass, and between 2002 and 2023, he carried out numerous professional projects in stained glass and mosaic. During the pandemic, he returned to easel painting, a medium through which he currently explores issues related to identity, vulnerability, and individual consciousness. He lives and works in Spain, and his work is included in the collections of the NPK Bank in Kharkiv and the Checkpoint Charlie Museum in Berlin.
