Piece of religious silverware, made in silver and silver gilt and punched in Toledo. Its maker, Pedro Biosca (1771-1785), demonstrates an outstanding technical mastery and a deep knowledge of the ornamental language of late neoclassicism. The rectangular structure rises on legs richly chiseled with vegetal motifs, which give stability and elegance to the whole. The frame is articulated by a complex openwork border of interlaced ovals, interrupted at the corners by square plates with flowers in relief, all of them gilded, which adds contrasts of brightness and visual depth to the silver surface. In the upper part, the piece culminates with a circular medallion in gilding that houses a representation in high relief of Saint Dominic of Guzman iconographically identified by his pilgrim's habit, the dog that accompanies him and the sore on his thigh, all elements modeled with great skill and expressiveness.
The lateral elements present masks and floral garlands, executed with a refined detail that speaks of the technical virtuosity of the goldsmith. The chiseled, embossed and gilded work has been applied with balance, combining devotional functionality with a rich aesthetic charge. The gilding, applied selectively, highlights key areas of the composition without overloading it, generating a hierarchical visual dynamic that guides the eye towards the central medallion. The ensemble is part of a sacred tradition of Eucharistic or liturgical display. The quality of the execution, the richness of the decorative motifs and the iconographic integration make this sacral a representative work of the Toledo goldsmiths of the first third of the 19th century, in which Pedro Biosca stands as a key figure within the workshops active after the War of Independence, preserving and elevating the canons of Spanish sacred art.
