BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Tondo; Belgium, 18th c.
Embossed silver
Measurements: 9,5 x 9 x 9 x 9 cm.
Small embossed silver tondo, possibly from the 18th century. The piece presents a circular relief in which a rider is represented on a rearing horse, arranged with great dynamism. The horse, of powerful musculature, is reminiscent of the famous equestrian models of Antonio Tempesta, whose prints enjoyed enormous diffusion in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries, becoming a common repertoire for artists.
Due to its formal characteristics, it is probable that this tondo was not an isolated work, but belonged to a larger decorative composition, perhaps as an applique on a piece of furniture, a cabinet or an ornamental element of sumptuary character.
