DESCRIPTION
Vase cover inspired by Piranesi's Helix tripod. France, Empire style, late 19th century.
Silver.
With hallmarks on one of the legs and signature of the silversmith: "Leon Lapar, Paris".
Net weight: 180 gr.
Measurements: 15 x 8 x 8 cm.
Cup type tripod in silver contrasted, with embossed and openwork motifs. These include putti, finely modeled rams' heads, cherub figures, Greco-Roman inspired trophies and garlands. It sits on slender claw feet, arranged as a tripod.
The model, a goblet tripod, is freely inspired by Piranesi's Helix tripod, who ingeniously blended archaeology, decoration and invention in his creations.
The piece, executed in the Empire style although of a somewhat later period, was initially covered with glass.
