The pieces present a sober design, where the balance between utility and ornamentation stands out. Each tray has distinctive characteristics: one of rectangular format with vegetal inspired openwork handles, another with straighter lines and geometric handles of more sober taste, and a third one with a gently curved polygonal contour and a rim decorated with repetitive motifs. This variety suggests a set designed both for different service uses and to add visual richness to the table. The finish shows evident signs of use and patina, which adds authenticity and evidences its age.
Spanish silver in the 20th century is an interesting chapter of transition between the artisan tradition inherited from previous centuries and the new aesthetic and industrial currents of modernity. At the beginning of the century, the production of silverware was still strongly influenced by historical styles such as neoclassicism and eclecticism. The workshops maintained traditional techniques and produced pieces mainly for domestic (trays, tea sets, cutlery) and religious (monstrances, chalices) use. Cities such as Cordoba, Madrid and Seville continued to be important centers of production.
