This silver tray made by Rovira in Barcelona at the end of the XIX century is a representative piece of the refinement and ornamental richness typical of the Spanish silverware of that time. Its design responds to a taste clearly influenced by the rococo style, highly appreciated in the historicist context of the time. The silhouette presents a wavy profile, with trimmed edges that provide dynamism and elegance. The side handles stand out especially, profusely decorated with vegetal motifs and scrolls, which are harmoniously integrated into the whole. The rim is worked with reliefs and soft volumes, generating a play of light that enhances the quality of the metal. In the center, the smooth surface is reserved for functional use, although it is decorated with a discreet engraved cartouche, possibly for initials or a coat of arms, suggesting a personalized use or social representation. This contrast between the richness of the perimeter and the sobriety of the central field is characteristic of high quality service pieces.
The tray is evidence of the technical mastery of Rovira's workshop, one of the most active in Barcelona at the time, where artisan tradition coexisted with a growing bourgeois demand for elegant and functional objects.
