Pair of silver candlesticks, made in 19th century Spain and marked with punches by G. Ampudia. Its design responds to the eclectic taste of the period, characterized by the reinterpretation of historical models with a refined sensibility.formally, the candlesticks present a balanced structure: circular base raised on small supports, turned shaft of stylized profile and curved arms that unfold in symmetrical composition to support three lights. The decoration, subtle but careful, concentrates on engraved motifs and plant-inspired elements, combining neoclassical sobriety with slight echoes of the baroque.
In the context of urban centers such as Madrid, this type of piece played a fundamental role in the setting of interiors, where candle lighting was not only functional, but also a sign of distinction. Thus, these candelabras should not be understood solely as utilitarian objects, but as manifestations of nineteenth-century bourgeois taste, in which silverware contributed to building an image of elegance and social status.
