DESCRIPTION
Lot of table pieces; Spain, late nineteenth century.
Silver.
Measurements: 28 x 15 cm (cruet).
Weight: 958 g (total).
This lot of silver tableware, made in Spain at the end of the 19th century, clearly reflects the domestic environment of the bourgeoisie of the time, especially in centers such as Madrid. It is a set conceived both for everyday use and for social representation.
The set is made up of a central support or cup holder, with a circular base and a raised shaft, from which rings are used to hold containers; two cups with their saucers, decorated with plant-inspired engravings; two silver teaspoons; and two small cylindrical containers, probably for sugar, cream or liquor.
From the stylistic point of view, the piece responds to the eclectic taste of the period, combining sober forms of neoclassical roots with a delicate decoration that refers to historicist models. In this context, heir to the social transformations following the reign of Isabella II of Spain, silverware is consolidated as a key element in the construction of the social image, where functionality and elegance converge in objects of everyday use.
