DESCRIPTION
Toiletry set of 16 pieces; Spain, early twentieth century.
Silver 925.
Measurements: 28 x 11 x 1 cm (mirror).
Weight: 450 g (without mirror and brushes).
The design reflects the eclectic style of the time, in which elements of historicism still survived, mixing sober and functional forms with ornamental details that accentuate elegance without reaching the excessive exuberance of the previous century. The presence of punches on the pieces indicates their authenticity and quality, in addition to allowing the identification of their origin and manufacturer, a common practice in European silverware that guarantees the provenance and value of the objects.
Contextually, this set is part of a period in which hygiene and personal care became increasingly important, both for health reasons and because of the social pressure of the time, especially in aristocratic and bourgeois environments. Dressing tables were essential elements in bedrooms and private salons, and also reflected the advance in the industrial production of silver objects that combined utility with artistic beauty.
